Cel przedmiotu

Presentation of selected issues in the field of physical chemistry which are of particular importance in the study of biological processes and which are the basis for experimental research. Teaching students to independently plan and conduct physicochemical measurements.

Wymagania wstępne

Basic knowledge on chemistry as described in a high school minimum program.

Zakres tematyczny

Lecture: Kinetics - mechanisms and rates of reactions. The kinetics of complex reactions. Homo and heterogeneous catalysis. Basics of electrochemistry. Conductivity of electrolyte solutions. Surface phenomena - absorption. Colloid systems. Electrical and magnetic properties of substances. Elements of photochemistry. Fundamentals of molecular spectroscopy.

Laboratory: Determination of Landolt's activation energy. Reaction kinetics. The conductivities of electrolyte solutions. Measurement of dissociation constant by potentiometric method. Free enthalpy of dissociation of p-nitrophenol. Partition coefficient. Adsorption from aqueous solutions. Electrochemical series of metals (determination of the reactivity of selected metals). Examination of physicochemical properties of proper and colloidal solutions. Coordination complex. Solubility of the substance, solubility equilibrium (precipitation and dissolution of sediments).

Metody kształcenia

Warunki zaliczenia

Lecture: Verification of student's knowledge will be held during the final test. The test contains opened questions and lasts 60 minutes. A student receives a positive grade after giving 55% correct answers.

Laboratory: a condition of credit is to obtain positive marks from all laboratory exercises, which are to be performed within the framework of the laboratory program. Assessment: knowledge tests (open) - positive score over 55% of points obtained, positive evaluation of laboratory diary and practical skills test.

The final mark is the arithmetic mean of the partial marks.
