Cel przedmiotu

The aim of the course is to increase students' competence in intercultural communication. Of particular importance in this context is the analysis of social reality in terms of the level of reflection of differences and similarities between particular cultures, and sensitizing students to their interpenetration.

Lectures:

  1. Types of communication: transcultural, intercultural, international and global communication
  2. Concepts: foreign and cultural alienness, cultural stereotype, prejudices, cultural shock, cultural adaptation
  3. National culture - definitions, characteristics, classification
  4. Cultural models in the context of intercultural communication
  5. Contexts in intercultural communication
  6. Verbal and non-verbal communication in international activities
  7. Communication and gender in international activities

Classes:

  1. Types of cultural identity
  2. Problems and barriers to communication resulting from culture (concepts of ethnocentrism, cultural relativism)
  3. Stereotypes, prejudices in intercultural communication
  4. Cultural shock - definition, models
  5. Protocol and cultural etiquette in international business (selected examples)
  6. Phenomena: assimilation, separation, marginalization, multiculturalism,
  7. Basic concepts in the culture of organization and dimensions of cultures (including E. Halla)
  8. Basic concepts in the field of Hofstede organization culture
  9. Language and culture (language types: global, global, artificial, etc.
  10. Negotiations in international communication

Metody kształcenia

Conversation lecture, discussions text, persentations, mobile methods including exploratory walks and study visits.

Warunki zaliczenia

Conditions for passing the lecture:

Written exam (open questions). Minimum threshold requirements to get 50% points. The scope of the material for the exam in accordance with the syllabus presented at the first classes. The grade from the lecture is the grade from the written exam.

 

Conditions for passing the exercises:

Credit for the grade. Preparation of group work - compliance with the topic will be assessed, the correct presentation structure, language, reliability, independence of the work, appropriate selection of the literature of the subject. The correct presentation method, the ability to answer questions about the presented material. Written mid-term exam, according to the syllabus presented at the first class. The evaluation of the exercises will be the arithmetic average of the presentation grade and written mid-term exam.

The final grade in the subject is the arithmetic mean of grades from the classes and the lecture.
