Cel przedmiotu

The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the basic problems of social philosophy. Presentation of the historical development of social ideas and doctrines and such issues as freedom, justice, social contract and common good.

Ancient sources of social philosophy. Modern concepts of states. Natural and common law. Concept of the state of nature according to Locke and Hobbes. Mill's idea of freedom. Marxism and socialism. Popper's theory of open society. History and development of civil society. Capitalism in the perspective of Ayn Rand. Debate between liberals and communitarians. Social science of the Catholic Church.
