Cel przedmiotu

The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the sociological perspective of recognizing problems of religion (religion defined in a reductionist manner as a socio-cultural phenomenon). The main idea of the course is to prepare students to carry out sociological analysis of religion and its social functions.

THEMATIC SCOPE OF THE LECTURES:

  1. Religion as a matter of interest to sociology, sociological definition of religion.
  2. Sacrum and profanum; secularization.
  3. Economy and religion.
  4. Organized and scattered religion.
  5. New religious movements.
  6. Religious fundamentalism.
  7. Folk religiousness; folk church.
  8.  

 

THEMATIC SCOPE OF THE CLASSES:

  1. Christianity and the values of European culture.
  2. Religious-like systems - civil religion and communism as functional equivalents of religion.
  3. Religion in post-communist societies.

Metody kształcenia

Conventional lecture.

Class: classic problem-solving method and work with a book/source text, group work, discussion of the round table.

The minimum threshold requirements is to give at least 50% correct answers to the questions.

Range of material covering the mid-term exam.

In accordance with the Syllabus presented in the first meeting .

 

Grade for activity while group work.

Substantive preparation, the ability to give examples, the ability to use the texts discussed.

Criteria for grade assessment of classes

The class grade will be a weighted average from the written mid-term exam (80%) and activity in class (20%).

 

FINAL GRADE*

Grades taken into account in the case of the final assessment.

Remarks:

Lecture + class graded.

Positive grading of classes and lectures (3.0-5.0) is a condition for a final credit.

Class assesed with a pass without grade + lecture graded.

The final evaluation is the lecture grade.

Final grade

The final grade is a weighted average of-60% of the lecture grade and 40% of the classes grade.
