Aim of the course

The aim of the course is to provide theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of regulation of intellectual property, with particular emphasis on the field of biology and biotechnology.

Prerequisites

No special initial requirements.

Scope

The genesis of regulation of intellectual property. Subject of copyright. National and European legal regulations, World Intellectual Property Organization. Industrial property; inventions and utility models, trademarks, industrial designs, trade secrets, geographic indications of source. Patents; International patents; European Patent Organisation; owner of the patent; patents application procedures.  Inventions and patents in biology and biotechnology, exclusions from protection, examples of the application documentation in biotechnology patents. Copyright- definition, application and legal basis; owner of copyright;  transfer of the copyright; infringement of copyright; how to use the copyrights.
