Learning about bioinformatics research methods, bioinformatics databases/services and biological literature databases.
Getting to know selected bioinformatics programs and their applications.
Computer and Internet skills.
Lecture
Bioinformatics databases/services. Analysis of the evolution of organisms and organisms' attractors. Evolutionary distances. Phylogenetic trees and algorithms of their creation. Multiple alignment of sequences. 2D and nD dot-matrix. Dot-matrix cleaning methods. Estimating the significance of the similarity of the compared sequences. The Pan factor and its application. Genetic semihomology. Detection of insertions, deletions and types of semihomology. Determining representatives. Modeling and analysis of protein structures. Analysis of cancer development. Methods of bioinformatics functionality and their implementation.
Laboratory
The subject of practical laboratory exercises relating to and consolidating the knowledge from the lectures:
- analysis of the evolution of organisms, including organisms of industrial importance,
- applications of dot-matrix,
- modeling and analysis of protein structures,
- implementation of methods of bioinformatics functionality.
Lecture with multimedia presentations (PowerPoint) and the use of bioinformatics databases/services and specialized bioinformatics programs. Practical exercises with the use of biological databases and specialized bioinformatics programs.

Laboratory - the condition for obtaining credit are positive grades from all laboratory exercises planned for implementation under the laboratory program.
