Practicing the ability to present and discuss the results of the diploma thesis.

Graduate Seminar I

Zakres tematyczny

1. Overview of the rules of writing and formatting the thesis: layout and text formatting; spelling of foreign names and abbreviations; syntax and spelling; citation and numbering of figures, tables, formulas and sources; preparation of tables of contents, lists of figures and tables of tables. Requirements for the preparation of drawings, diagrams, tables, charts, photos.

2. Overview of the most frequently used text editors for writing longer works: OpenOffice, MS Word, LATEX.

3. Discussion of the rules for quoting bibliographic sources used in the thesis (journal articles, books, websites, technical standards, etc.).

4. Discussion of the principles of ethical use of materials: rules of copying and quoting previously published materials, infringement of copyright, discussing the principles of anti-plagiarism control.

5. Discussion of the principles of the presentation of the concept of work, scientific methods and the selection of data collection and analysis methods, as well as the presentation and description of the obtained results.

6. Presentation by students at the forum of the seminar group, of the partial effects of the completed diploma thesis and a discussion on the presentation, in which the seminar group actively participates.

Warunki zaliczenia

The student's participation in the discussion, the presentation of the results of the diploma thesis and the form of oral expression are assessed. Detailed conditions of assessment are determined by the seminar leader during the first class. Participation in the discussion on the form of presentation as part of consultations according to the schedule.
