Cel przedmiotu

The primary objective of teaching pharmacology and toxicology is to get acquainted with basic terminology and topics related to pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics, and toxicology, the objective is also to present the advantages and dangers related to pharmacology. The student acquires knowledge of the mechanisms of actions of medicine, their interactions, and side effects and also learns ways of writing medical prescriptions for prescription medicines and pharmacy medicines and reporting side effects.

Knowledge in the field of biochemistry, anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology.

  1. Introduction to antipsychotic drugs.
  2. Introduction to antimicrobial therapy. Antibiotic therapy for bacterial infections.
  3. Antiviral drugs. Antifungal drugs.
  4. Pharmacotherapy of hypothalamus and pituitary gland hormones.
  5. Medicine used in the treatment of diabetes mellitus. Glucagon.
  6. Pharmacology of sex hormones (female and male), anabolic, androgenic steroids.
  7. Pro-cognitive drugs, cannabinoids, antimigraine agents.
  8. Pharmacotherapy in dermatological and ophthalmological diseases.
  9. Pharmacotherapy in respiratory system diseases, COPD, asthma.
  10. Spasmolytic drugs, autacoids.
  11. Pharmacotherapy in digestive system diseases.
  12. Basic information for toxicology.
  13. Drugs interactions.

Metody kształcenia

Classes are conducted in the form of seminars and exercises. Seminars and exercises consist of discussions of pharmacological issues and discussions with students. During the exercises, in addition, there is practical learning of writing prescriptions for ready-made and prescription drugs, and learning to search for and use various sources of information about drugs. Discussing groups of drugs using clinical examples. Lectures are conducted in the form of multimedia presentations.

Warunki zaliczenia

Lecture classes: Lecture attendance is mandatory. The course ends with a final exam after the 6th semester, the exam consists of 100 questions or tasks. To pass the exam, a minimum of 60% of the possible points must be obtained. The condition for admission to the examination is completing and passing the exercises and seminars. The resit exam is conducted in the form of an oral exam. If it is necessary to switch to remote examination (in the regulatory time, before the start of the session, based on the rules of remote examination), it is possible to change the conditions of the examination.

Exercise and seminar classes: The condition for the class is obtaining positive grades in all classes scheduled for the program. Grade from seminars is comprised of an evaluation test in oral or written form and grades from activity during the classes. Class grade is comprised of grades acquired during classes in the form of prescription tests and grades from activity during classes. To pass the evaluation test student must obtain a minimum 60% of points. Classes and seminars start with quiz testing theoretical preparation for class. A quiz may be done in oral or written form and it will be done by the lecturer, passing the quiz is mandatory for class/seminar attendance. Attendance at all classes and seminars is mandatory. In cases of an excused absence, the student should make up the shortfall within the time agreed with the lecturer. Absences should not exceed 10 percent of the hours scheduled for a given form of class. Each failed quiz or evaluation test can be retaken up to 3 times. Final grade: arithmetic mean of all forms provided for the course. The results of the mean are determined according to the principle: mean 3.25 is the final mark of 3.5; mean 3.75 is the final score of 4.0; mean 4.25 is the final score of 4.5; the mean of 4.75 is the final score of 5.0.

Evaluation tests and exam scores:

- from 0% - 59% gets unsatisfactory (2.0) and fails the final exam               

- from 60% - 69% gets satisfactory ( 3.0 )

- from 70 % - 79% gets fairly good ( 3.5)

- from 80 % - 89% gets good ( 4.0 )

- from 90 % - 95% gets better than good ( 4.5 )
