The main objectives of the course:
- to be able understand and apply the methods used in metabolic studies,
- to gain understanding of the localization, regulation and integration of metabolic pathways and molecular basis of human metabolic diseases.
Knowledge of physical chemistry, biochemistry and microbiology at the academic level.
Lecture: Principles of metabolism. Glycolysis and gluconeogenesis are regulated contrary. The citric acid cycle regulation. Regulation of oxidative phosphorylation. The pentosephosphate pathway regulation. Coordinated regulation of glycogen synthesis and breakdown. Fatty acids metabolism regulation. Regulation of biosynthesis of lipids and steroids. Amino acids biosynthesis is under allosteric regulation. Regulation of biosynthesis and degradation of nucleotides. Integration of mammalian metabolism: - key metabolites, - tissue specific metabolism
Laboratory classes - yeast as a model organism in biochemical and genetic research. Study of the regulation of respiratory metabolism in Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast mutants. Acryflawin induction of respiratory mutants aci + rho- and aci + rhoo. Growth of aci + mutants on non-fermentable carbon and energy sources.
Lecture (in a form of multimedia presentation) - Practical method – laboratory classes with the use of Saccharomyces cerevisiae mutants as a model organism and microbiological equipment.

The lectures- the final examination test after getting the pass mark credit of the classes. It is conducted in the written form. The laboratory classes: the attendance at classes, the laboratory experiments carried out correctly and the pass mark credit of tests. Positive marks - 60% of correct answers.
