Cel przedmiotu

To familiarise students with the structure and functioning of the major physiological systems of animals. To show dependencies and mechanisms of cooperation of individual organs and organs at the level of the organism. Mechanisms of maintaining homeostasis in the body. To teach the basic principles of safe work in the animal physiology laboratory and the operation of basic laboratory equipment such as light microscope, centrifuge, spectrophotometer, automatic pipettes, urine analyser. Creating the need to take responsibility for obtaining the correct analytical result. Developing a critical approach to the results obtained and analysing possible analytical errors.

Wymagania wstępne

Knowledge of basic biochemical processes. Use of a light microscope at all magnification levels. High school level knowledge of animal systematics.

Zakres tematyczny

Lectures:

- Physiology of the nervous system: the central, peripheral and autonomic nervous system.

- Sensory organs: in fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals.

- Physiology of movement in the animal world. Mechanisms for generating the energy required for movement. Energy balance of vertebrate movement.

- Types of digestive processes in vertebrates

- Mechanisms of purification of animal organisms.

- Blood physiology - composition and role of blood elements. Blood group system.

- Thermal, chemical and biochemical homeostasis - hormonal feedback.

Laboratory:

-The nervous system physiology

- The physiology of the senses of vertebrates.

- The system of red blood cells in vertebrates.

- The white blood cell system in vertebrates.

- Processes of the production and transport of energy.

- Circulatory system - stress through exercise.

- Physiology of the excretory system - morphological and chemical composition of urine.

- Homeostasis as a result of the cooperation of all systems.

Metody kształcenia

Laboratory classes in which the student personally performs haematological and biochemical analyses in the blood. Studies in vitro digestive processes. Analyses the qualitative and quantitative components of urine. Analyses the course of physiological experiments carried out on animals using educational films.
