Cel przedmiotu

The aim of the course is to provide students with knowledge, competences and skills in the field of functioning and prospects for the development of the current international monetary system (in particular, the mechanisms of functioning of the monetary system in the European Union: Economic and Monetary Union) and to familiarize with the changes that took place in this system in subsequent periods .

Lectures Introduction to the subject, familiarization with the program of lectures and the structure of classes, familiarization with the available literature related to the discussed issues, general outline of the subject matter. The genesis of the international monetary system - the first international monetary system, i.e. the gold currency system and its modifications: the gold bar and gold exchange system. The gold and foreign exchange system after World War II - the Bretton Woods system (reasons for the creation of the system, principles of operation, the collapse of the system and its consequences). Multi-currency system. International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. Currency convertibility. International currency: definition, features, functions. Reserve currencies, intervention currencies, investment currencies, transaction currencies. Theory of optimal currency areas. Outline of economic and monetary integration in Europe. European Monetary System. The process of introducing the euro currency. Maastricht convergence criteria. Benefits and costs of participation in the monetary union based on the theory and experience of the euro area. Regional and national currency systems. major currency zones. International monetary system of the future - world money. Cryptocurrencies. Currency crises: causes, course, effects, forms of prediction and prevention.

Lab Introduction to the subject, familiarization with the laboratory program and the structure of classes, familiarization with the available literature related to the discussed issues, general outline of the subject. International Monetary System: Asia. International Monetary System: Africa. International monetary system: South America. Currency crises (case study). Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Examples. Local currencies. Examples. Global money. Crime in the currency market - a case study. The international monetary system - the desired direction of change.

Metody kształcenia

Conventional and problem lecture, case method. Lecture with presentation. Laboratory: group work, brainstorming, ideas exchange, classic problem method. Creating and presenting material on currency systems (in groups) for discussion. Each student constructs an international (currency) wallet - in each laboratory there is a virtual purchase of currencies (from each continent) and cryptocurrencies on the educational platform with justification for the choice of values. The situation in the international monetary system will be commented on an ongoing basis.

Warunki zaliczenia

The condition for passing the lectures is a positive credit in the form of a test.

Learning outcomes from the laboratory will be verified by evaluating systematic work in groups on the content contained in the thematic scope of the subject. The condition for passing the laboratory is the preparation and presentation of material on currency systems (group members divide the number of points obtained according to the individual workload for the presentation) and active participation in classes (also when discussing the created currency portfolios). In the verification of the presented material on currency systems, attention will mainly be paid to the student's own solutions. The grade from the laboratory will depend in 50% on the points received for the prepared presentation and in 50% on activity in individual classes. The final grade consists of the grade from the lecture (50%) and the grade from the laboratory (50%).
