Aim of the course

The aim of the course is to provide students with knowledge about sustainable development as a new paradigm in economics, and selected methods and instruments used to achieve the goals of sustainable development in social and economic life.

Scope

Lecture: Basics and essence of the concept of sustainable development. The necessity to reform traditional economics, environmental economics, and ecological economics - stages on the way to the economics of sustainable development. The main theses of the economics of sustainable development. Economic growth in the economy of sustainable development.

Practicals: Economy - society - environment - knowledge about the relationships and dependencies of these systems as the basis for sustainable development. From homo economicus to homo cooperativus - the basics of sustainable development ethics. Personal contribution to sustainable development activities (sustainable consumption). Traditional assumptions of economic policy and proposals of sustainable economic policy. Education for sustainable development - the basis for the implementation of the concept in the practice of social and economic life.

Teaching methods

Conventional lecture.

Practicals: classic problem method, discussion, group work, presentation, work with the source document.

Assignment conditions

Lecture:The student has to complete the lecture with a grade. The student has to answer 60 percent of the questions (descriptive or test questions) formulated in the passing test (K_W01, K_W4).

Classes: The student has to:

a) pass the test (descriptive or test questions; The student receives credit, if he gives at least 60% of correct answers (K_W01, K_W4),

b)  prepare the project and show a presentation  (K_U09, K_K02, K_K05),

c)  take part in discussions and group work during exercises (K_K02, K_K05).

The course grade will be the arithmetic average of the grades from the tutorials and the lecture, assuming that both grades are at least satisfactory.
