Cel przedmiotu

Familiarizing students with basic knowledge in the field of pedagogy.  Developing the ability to analyze basic educational environments and designing educational situations, taking into account the role of the teacher. Stimulating reflection on contemporary pedagogical problems.

Zakres tematyczny

1.       Education and development (B.2.W3., B.2.K3.)

a.     Pedagogy as a science. The subject of pedagogy. Functions of education. The upbringing process, its structure, properties, dynamics.

b.     Coercion and freedom in upbringing. Education as shaping and supporting development. Adaptive and emancipatory upbringing. Education and manipulation. Subjectivity in education.

c.     Basic educational environments: family, peer group, school. Parenting styles and attitudes. Contexts of upbringing. Sources and manifestations of the crisis of contemporary education.

2.       School as an educational institution (B.2.W1., B.2.W3., B.2.W4., B.2.U4., B.2.K1., B.2.K2.)

a.     The school crisis and attempts to overcome it. School culture.

b.     The social environment of the classroom and school. Leadership styles: autocratism and democracy at school. Processes and patterns of communication within the school. The school's hidden curriculum. Attitudes of teachers and students. Working with a peer group. Creating an educational environment in the classroom and at school.

c.     Educational work plan. Educational methods and their effectiveness. Parenting skills. Educational difficulties. Conflicts in class and family. Educational mistakes. Limits and measures of educational influences.

d.     Out-of-school educational and social rehabilitation institutions. Cooperation between family and school. Cooperation between the school and the community.

3.       Teacher's profession (B.2.W2., B.2.U2., B.2.U3.)

a.     Teacher's professional roles. Personal role model, attitude and teaching skills. Teacher's responsibilities and professional development. Teacher's internal program. Teacher's professional preparation. Private, common knowledge and the teacher's scientific knowledge.

b.     Teaching ethics. Legal liability of a guardian, teacher, educator.

c.     Further education and professional development as conditions for professional advancement. Workplace learning. Lifelong learning for teachers.

d.     Teacher burnout – causes, symptoms, remedial strategies. Diseases related to the teaching profession - prevention. (B.1.W5.)

4.       Communication and language culture. (B.2.W4., B.2.K2.) (B.1.W3., B.1.W4)

a.     Communication processes. Communication barriers. Teacher in the communication process - self-presentation, active listening, effective broadcasting. Nonverbal communication. Emotional communication in the classroom. Communication styles of students and teachers.

b.     Media and their educational influence.

5.       Getting to know students. (B.2.W1, B.2.W4., B.2.U5.)

a.     Methods and techniques of getting to know students and their limitations, ethical issues. Ways of functioning of students in the classroom. Class structure. The student's social position in the classroom. Types of students.

b.     International and national regulations regarding human rights, children, students and people with disabilities.

6.       Prevention at school. (B.2.W3., B.2.W5., B.2.W6., B.2.U4., B.2.U6., B.2.U7., B.2.K4.)

a.     Designing class and school prevention programs. Promotion and protection of students' health.

b.     Teacher diagnosis. Basic diagnostic techniques in pedagogy. Conditions of the diagnostic process.

c.     Psychological and pedagogical assistance - legal regulations, forms and principles of providing support.

d.     Pedagogical treatment of students with special educational needs. Helping a student with health problems - chronically ill and disabled. e.     Cooperation with parents of a student with special educational needs and specialists working with the student.

e.     Cooperation with parents of students with special educational needs and specialists working with the student.

Warunki zaliczenia

The basis for passing the lecture is a positive grade from the written or oral test.

The basis for passing the exercises is obtaining a positive grade, which is conditioned by: active participation of the student in class discussions; PowerPoint presentation of a selected pedagogical issue – individually or in a group, analysis of selected scenes from an educational film.

The final grade for the course is the arithmetic mean of the positive grades obtained in both forms of classes.
