Cel przedmiotu

Introducing the student to basic concepts, definitions, and designations in urban planning, defining the urban space, tendencies, trends, and directions in shaping contemporary urban planning. Developing skills in residential architecture: contemporary ideas and principles of designing multi-family residential complexes.

Cultivating imagination, intuition, a creative attitude, and independent thinking in the pursuit of original urban design solutions, presenting one's own ideas and design concepts, expressing opinions on interdisciplinary aspects of urban planning, and fostering the need for collaboration with specialists at all stages of the design process. Emphasizing the culture-forming aspect of urban design in the spirit of preserving the cultural and spatial continuity of existing structures within the planned development.

Wymagania wstępne

General knowledge about urban planning.

Zakres tematyczny

Basic principles of urban design - domestic and foreign examples. Influence of construction technique and technology on the designed urban form of city development elements. The influence of architectural styles on the spatial composition of the designed layouts of urban development. The impact of functional and environmental conditions on the degree of complexity of the urban development plan. Spatial composition in urban design. The main elements of the architectural and urban composition. Issues of the influence of the scale and proportions of spatial structure elements on the observer. Standards in urban design. Foreign experiences. Standards in force in the country related to the urban and suburban natural and urban environment, the intensity of land use, the conditions of development, greenery, recreation, services and communication. General outline of the spatial planning system in Poland.

Design. Output part of the design study:

1. In the area of urban investment selected for design development, the student, after a team assessment of utility, cultural, landscape, natural, technical and social requirements, creates design assumptions along with a program of changes and additions to be implemented in the existing state of development of this area terrain.

Basic part of the design study:

2. On the basis of prepared urban planning materials for the project, the student develops a concept of a detailed spatial development plan for a selected area of urban development in terms of qualitative and quantitative changes and additions to its existing urban development.

Metody kształcenia

Conveying methods - conventional, problem-based, conversational, informational communication.

Exploratory methods - design workshops and laboratory sessions - interdisciplinary education, fostering a creative attitude, searching for design ideas and new forms, discussion, individual and group work following a detailed schedule of activities.

  • Submission for the evaluation of complete partial studies and the final design elaboration, consisting of graphical and descriptive sections, prepared in accordance with the instructor's guidelines.
