Cel przedmiotu

Knowledge: Mastery of the principles of conceptual and competition aspects of architectural design.

Skills: Developing skills in creatively and innovatively utilizing the creative potential of an architect to solve contemporary world's problems and challenges, the ability to assess the technical and non-technical issues of the impact of design decisions on the material, immaterial, and human environment.

Personal and social competencies: Presenting one's own ideas and design concepts, expressing opinions regarding interdisciplinary aspects of architectural design.

Zakres tematyczny

Competition projects to choose from among current national and international architectural competitions. In the seminar part, the lecturer explains the organization, types and forms of architectural competitions, shows examples of competition works from around the world and from Poland, students discuss what the winning competition works are characterized by. The selected design competition is discussed, the regulations are analyzed, and the competition materials are an element of the program is formulating and defending one's own design ideas in a clear and factual manner, accepting constructive criticism and discussion. The program of the subject includes classes in the form of a weekly presentation of the project in front of other participants.

Lecture content:

Global problems and an attempt to indicate the possibilities of solving them through architectural activities.

Features of innovation, experiment, originality, conceptualism in architecture

Theory of creativity - plagiarism and creation in architecture.

Visionaries in architecture, the future of architecture, the choice of a hypothetical problem of future residential architecture and an attempt to determine how to solve it - discussion

An attempt to determine the future trends in the development of architecture;

Discussion

Economics of searching for the form of an architectural object, new forms and constructions and "recycling" in architecture, high-tech versus low-tech. Adaptation of new concepts of life and work in thinking about the architectural form.

Inventive methods in architectural design: 

In the design part, students develop, in teams of up to two people, an ideological competition project in accordance with the rules and scope of the selected design competition in free technique, skillfully using graphic and digital techniques learned at previous stages of education to present their own ideas in a clear and communicative way.

Metody kształcenia

Methods of delivery: Introductory lectures in design classes - conventional, problem-oriented, conversational, informative communication.

Exploratory methods: Design classes - interdisciplinary education, fostering a creative attitude, seeking design ideas and new forms, discussion, individual and group work following a detailed schedule of classes.

Warunki zaliczenia

Submission for evaluation of complete partial work and the final design development, consisting of both graphic and descriptive components, prepared in accordance with the instructor's guidelines. Submission of the project work to a national or international competition.
