The aim of the course is to present the most important, currently developing biological databases with particular emphasis on databases in the field of biotechnological data, practical use of their potential in in silico analyzes, planning of experimental tasks or comparative analysis of cases of molecular pathologies.
Knowledge of issues in the field of biochemistry, genetics and cell biology. The ability to use computer and use computer programs and internet sources.
Computer laboratory 1. Index of biological databases. Sources and types of biological data. Data for analysis and simulation in biotechnology. 2. BBD registers and their updates. Analysis of financing sources, supervision and resource verification methods for selected examples of bases. 3. Examples of source databases and primary resources. Analysis of the development dynamics of individual types of resources. 4. Examples of secondary databases, construction of metabases and specialized databases. 5. The structure of The National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI). 6. DNA sequence databases (GenBank, EMBL, DDBJ et al.), 7. Bases of protein sequences and structures (UniProt, ExPASy, Swiss-Prot, Protein Data Bank, BRENDA et al.) 8. Bibliographic databases (PubMed, PubMed Central, BookShelf et al.). 9. Analysis of selected resources, important from the point of view of planning and analysis in biotechnology.
Computer laboratory: exercises using computer programs and online database resources. Search, presentation of results and data analysis. Individual consultations.

Computer laboratory: the condition for passing is obtaining positive grades from the final test (positive grade above 60% of points possible to obtain), preparation of planned written reports and one multimedia presentation.
The final test is a test of practical skills, it contains 20 tasks, the implementation of which requires an appropriate selection of data resources, proper analytical procedure and drawing conclusions. The duration of the pass 60 minutes. The student receives a positive assessment after providing 60% of correct answers.
