Cel przedmiotu

The course is aimed to explain the principles of the contemporary criminal law and criminal procedure in Poland. It is focused on the presentation of basic problems of the crime, punishment and description of reaching a penal responsibility in a fair trial process. The course is expected to address the crucial questions associated with the model of criminal proceedings and capture the essence of the last changes of the Polish criminal law.

Requisite and Incompatibility:

General knowledge in the scope of lawmaking and principles of continental penal law.

Zakres tematyczny

Learning Outcomes:

Learning outcome of the course is to introduce the following concepts:

• Basic concepts and terminology of criminal law and criminal procedure,
• Legal sources in the field of penal law (Penal Code and Code of Criminal Procedure),
• Concept and model of criminal proceedings,
• Primary principles of criminal proceedings in Poland,
• Law of evidence,
• Concept and the methods of ensuring the proper course of proceedings (arrest and others preventive measures),
• Interaction between the preparatory proceedings and a proceedings before the court of first instance,
• Appellate proceedings.

Metody kształcenia

 

Workload:

Students are expected to take part in regular lectures. The course is designed to last 12 hours. Forms of study: classes, multimedia presentation, guided visit in criminal court (3h).
