Overview of the course. Providing a list of literature. Discussion of the rules for passing the course. Presentation and discussion of learning outcomes.
Basics of configuring network devices. The concept of switching in computer networks: frame forwarding in Ethernet switches, switching domains. The role of VLANs and their configuration. Routing between VLANs: router on a stick, role of layer 3 switch in switching between VLANs.
Logical addressing: DHCPv4, SLAAC, DHCPv6.
WLAN concepts: types of devices, operation of WLAN networks. WLAN network configuration.
Routing concepts: static routing, default routes, static routing troubleshooting. Dynamic routing concepts: classful and classless routing, distance vector and link state routing protocols.
Security in computer networks: configuration of standard, extended and named access control lists, firewalls, DMZ, IPS and IDS systems. NAT translation for IPv4.
