Learning the basic principles of designing and implementing conservation works in construction.
Methodology of conservation research. Research programme. Preparatory work - inventory documentation, opinions, assessments, expertise. Scientific research - archival research, field research. Historical and conservation documentation of the object. Conservation applications.
Old vs. modern building materials.
Principles of conservation work in construction. Grounds and foundations. Walls and pillars. Insulation. Ceilings and vaults. Wooden structures. Roof coverings. Carpentry, joinery. Plasters. Floors and floorings.
Masonry in historic buildings. Research methods.
Principles of conservation of brick masonry and stone architectural details. Methods and measures used in the conservation of brick masonry and stone architectural details.
Conservation and preservation of wooden elements.
Conservation of ruins. Steps in the process of preserving ruins. Conditions of survival.
Building law and conservation of monuments. Cooperation with conservation services. Technical and legal principles in objects requiring heritage preservation.

Credit on the basis of a test with point thresholds:
50% - 60% of positive answers - dst,

Project
Passing marks for all project exercises (2 projects) and a written test with assessment criteria are required.
