To familiarize students with the idea of convergednetworks
To provide basic knowledge about protocols and standards used in converged networks
To familiarize students with the problems associated with the integration of digital and analogue services
To give basic skills allowing integrating networks with new network services (digital and analog)
To familiarize students with the methods of quality assurance (QoS) in computer networks
Computer networks
Convergent networks. Idea and evolution. Architectures of convergent networks. Design of the convergent networks. Development Strategy. Scalability and availability. Technologies of converged networks. Services in converged networks and their requirements. STP protocols and VLANs. Advantages of IPv6 over IPv4 in converged networks.
VoIP and video streams. Protocols: SIP, H.323, RTP, RTCP. Integration of circuit switched networks and packet‑switched networks. VoIP technologies and services.
Quality of Services in the converged networks: Role of the CoS and ToS in converged networks. Best-Effort, IntServ and DiffServ models. Queueing methods: FIFO, WFQ, CBWFQ and LLQ. Traffic shaping methods: RED, WRED, CBWRED.
Management and security in the convergent networks. Monitoring the network performance.
Lecture, laboratory exercises.
