The aim of the course is to provide knowledge on general ecology with special attention to the concepts of diversity and ecosystems in evolutionary aspects.
Basic knowlegde on biology (botany and zoology), chemistry and physical geography as described in a high school program.
LECTURES: Life as a phenomenon. Earth, the planet of life. Resources. Biogeochemical cycles. Photosynthesis. Productivity. Water ability. Mineral nutrients. Concept of diversity. Diversity measures. Biodiversity. Populations. Communities. Competition. Adaptations. Biotic interactions. Herbivory. Mycorrhizae. Concept of ecosystem. Ecosystem dynamics. Disturbance. Succesion. Habitats. Bioms. General biogeographical patterns. Applied ecology.
PRACTICALS: Population ecology. Biocoenosis. Trophic networks. Ecosystem functioning.
Lectures: Informative multimedial presentations; practicals - laboratory training, discussions, field excursions.

LECTURE: The student is allowed to take the final written exam after having completed and earned credits for practical courses. The exam lasts 45 minutes contains 20 closed questions. PRACTICALS: The credit is given basing on the positive evaluation of all laboratory training sessions, positive results of all written tests (each test consists of open
and closed questions; the positive result is based on a positive evaluation of a minimum 60% of the questions). The final mark is an arithmetic mean of all partial marks.
