Aim of the course

The aim of the course is to gain knowledge about basic methods collecting plant and animal material in the field, techniques of fixing and maintaining the material, methods of collecting and recording the collected material. During the course students will acquire the skills to use field testing equipment, improve the skills of recognition of plants and animals with the help of the keys. Student improves the skills of critical analysis, interpretation and description of the results of their research. During the exercises, the student improves the ability to work in the team.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of botany, zoology of invertebrates and vertebrates 

Scope

1. Basic methods of collecting plant and animal material in the field,

2. Techniques for fixing and maintaining the material,

3. Collection and recording of acquired material.

4. Marking of plants and animals with the help of keys.

5. Knowing selected species of plants and animals.

Assignment conditions

Participation in classes. Identification of specimens in the field and laboratory (knowledge of particular groups at the level of the order, and in the case of characteristic taxons the ability to assign to the species). You must correctly identify at least 75% of the specimens. Results described in the report.
