Aim of the course

The aim of the course is to familiarize the student with the basics of the functioning of spatial information systems (GIS) and the possibilities of their use in monitoring and management of the conservation of natural resources.

Prerequisites

The ability to use computers in Windows.

Scope

Determining the location on the Earth's surface. Cartographic mappings and coordinate systems. GPS system and similar. GIS software - ArcGis package and Quantum GIS package. GIS databases. Basic functions of vector and raster analysis.

Methods based on the practical activity of students, practical methods - learning by doing.

Assignment conditions

The condition for passing the exercises is getting the right amount of points from all the exercises planned for implementation within the program. Assessment is subject to self-made practical tasks. Positive rating - when more than 60% of all possible points are obtained.
