Cel przedmiotu

The aim of the course is for the student to acquire the ability to use information technology in support of learning and practical application in their profession. To make the student aware of the essence of information technology, conscious use of the Internet, searching for useful information. To introduce the student to the possibility of using available library resources, especially electronic collections. To develop the ability to use office software, in particular: text editors, spreadsheets and applications for creating presentations. To acquire competences related to the effective presentation of materials developed by the student.

Wymagania wstępne

Basic computer skills and knowledge of concepts used in computer technology.

Students should have a basic knowledge of: working with the Windows environment, using internet search engines, email accounts and downloading files.

Zakres tematyczny

Lecture:

L1: Information and information technology. Digitisation of information. Electronic library collections.

L2: Overview of useful computer applications (office and engineering type) with discussion of their essential functions. Form creation, data archiving, databases. Cloud storage and file sharing. Basic graphics processing, design and customisation when working with office software.

L3: Paid and free office software. Alternative software for automated text assembly, e.g. LaTeX. Creation and editing of texts (e.g. using MS Word): text formatting, tables, equations, problems of working on styles, serial correspondence. 

L4: Working with spreadsheets (e.g. using MS Excel): overview and application of selected functions.

L5: Obtaining and processing information. Searching for information in specialised databases available on the Internet e.g. scientific, industry-specific. Possibilities of using ready-made templates to create graphics, animations, brochures, leaflets, posters. 

L6: Guidelines for composition and presentation of multimedia presentations. 

L7: Passing form: presentations.

L8: Passing form: presentations. Proposed final grades.

Project:

P1: Useful keyboard shortcuts.

P2-5: Working with an office suite, e.g. Word application. Creating, formatting and editing text and mathematical formulas, use of styles. Working in review mode. Inserting and processing graphic objects in text editors.

P6-9: Working with an office suite, e.g. Excel application. Entering and editing data in spreadsheets. Conditional formatting. Working with mathematical, textual functions. Visual methods of presenting data. Add-ons for statistical calculations, e.g. Solver.

P10-12: Working with multimedia presentation software, e.g. Power Point application. Developing a multimedia presentation using graphics, text, animation. Creating and editing custom templates in a presentation. Ways of sharing presentations and displaying slides.

P13: Presentation of a self-made multimedia presentation.

P14: Using template editors. Creating simple graphics and animations, brochures, flyers, posters.

P15: Passing form: written test. Marks proposition.

Metody kształcenia

Conventional lecture.

Classes: working at a computer in a computer laboratory.

Warunki zaliczenia

Lecture: multimedia presentation. Achieving a pass mark means scoring min. 50% of the points.

Project: arithmetic mean of partial grades obtained for particular tasks. The assessment is influenced by attendance at classes, active participation of the student, timely preparation.

Final evaluation: The prerequisite for passing the course is receiving a positive grade from all its forms. The final mark is the arithmetic mean of the marks awarded for individual forms of the course.
