Cel przedmiotu

The aim of the course is to familiarise students with practical knowledge of the materials used, manufacturing technology, technical quality of materials and products, making accurate choices of non-destructive and destructive testing methods, assessing their suitability, determining the testing technique, acquiring the skills to interpret and evaluate the results in terms of the applicable standards, regulations and specifications, preparing reports of test results.

Wymagania wstępne

Knowledge of manufacturing techniques, materials science, basic metrology.

Zakres tematyczny

Lectures:

W1: Introduction to the class. Concept of technical quality of material and product.

W2. Features determining the technical quality of a product (features formulated in the technical documentation; features resulting from standards). Basic quality requirements for the product.

W3: Technical quality versus usable quality of the product. Features of product usable quality.

W4-6: Quality requirements and parameters characterising materials depending on their state (manufacturing methods): poured materials, wrought materials, powder metallurgy materials, composites.

W7: Modern material testing methods: chemical composition tests (spectral and emission methods).

W8-9: Microstructure studies (electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, quantitative microstructure analysis).

W10: Methods of detecting and assessing material defects (magnetic, X-ray and ultrasonic defectoscopy, penetrant methods).

W12: Theoretical basis of selected technological tests.

W13: Classification of product defects in mechanical engineering and techniques for their recognition and avoidance.

W14: Techniques to control and improve the technical quality of materials and products.

W15: Colloquium - credit.

Scope of the laboratory:

L1: Introduction to the class, Evaluation of engineering materials by static tensile test and impact tests.

L2: Assessment of technological properties of moist moulding compounds.

L3: Recognition of casting defects and determination of their causes.

L4: Macroscopic and microscopic testing of materials and products.

L5-6: Non-destructive testing.

L7: Recognition of product defects in metal forming processes.

L8: Extra term.

L9: Recognition of defects in plastic products.

L10: Assessment of hardenability of steel.

L11: Recognition of defects in heat treated products.

L12: Evaluation of technological properties of liquid casting alloys.

L13: Assessment of the chemical composition of silicas using the ATD method.

L14: Spectral analysis of chemical composition.

L15: Extra term, credit.

Warunki zaliczenia

Lecture: written/oral colloquium preceded by a pass mark in laboratory classes. The lecture part of the course is conditional on obtaining a positive mark from a colloquium conducted at the end of the semester comprising verification of knowledge of basic issues. The lecture grade consists of positive grades from each of the 5 credit questions. The average mark of the 5 questions is entered.

Laboratory: the mark is determined by the component assessing skills related to the implementation of exercises and preparation of reports. The pass mark is obtained from all laboratory classes provided for in the programme, taking into account the student's attendance and activity in classes. The arithmetic mean of positive marks obtained from individual laboratory classes.

The final mark for the course is the arithmetic mean of the marks from the colloquium and laboratory.
