Cel przedmiotu

To practice Polish-English translation of a more sophisticated usage relying on wordplay and humour. To show students its intricacies and give guidelines. To develop humour-and-wordplay-translating talent.

Wymagania wstępne

Fluency in Polish and good command of English. Interest in translation. Erudition. Common sense and sense of humour..

Zakres tematyczny

Samples of humour and wordplay in English and Polish genre fiction, newspaper articles, sitcoms etc.

Metody kształcenia

The direct method, involving thorough analysis of the source text sample. Discussion of merits and weaknesses of translations by students. Comparison with already existing, published translation. Showing students ways of maximising the pun/humour effect alongside faithfullness to original. Finding ways to translate the untranslatable.
