The purpose of the course is to introduce students to the basic concepts and processes of entrepreneurship and its practical implications. On successful completion, students will be able to (1) identify business opportunities and develop business ideas in the ongoing process; (2) explain theoretical concepts of entrepreneurship and apply them to practical cases; (3) take the entrepreneur's perspective within the company identifying opportunities, risks and necessary measures that arise in this context; (4) understand the process of managing a company from the founding phase to the growth phase and up to successsion planning.

Lectures: Historical outline of views on entrepreneurship. Modern concept of entrepreneurship, types of entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurship as a behavior, attitude and process. Intellectual entrepreneurship, internal and external entrepreneurship, social entrepreneurship, family entrepreneurship. External and internal determinants of entrepreneurship, entrepreneurial motivations. Entrepreneurial orientation. Institutions supporting entrepreneurs; business environment. International entrepreneurship.
Exercises: The process of entrepreneurship. Planning a business venture. Identification of entrepreneurial opportunities. Assessing the risk of failure. Identification of necessary resources and conditions for implementing the entrepreneurial plan. Formal procedures for starting a business. Importance and construction of a business plan.
Lecture based on a case study. Exercises: case method, group work, project method.

Lecture - exam, exercises - pass mark. The minimum threshold for passing the exam is min. 50% of correct answers from the theoretical issues presented in the lecture. The condition to get a credit for the exercises is to prepare and present to the classes a business model along with a business plan for a new or existing business venture. The project is to include the substantive and financial part of the venture (K_K11). The final grade consists of: a partial grade on the progress of the project preparation delivered in the form of two presentations (30%) and a final grade on the project submitted in written form (70%) ( K_U02, K_W02, K_W04). An alternative way to pass the exercises is to participate in the study of innovative activity of industrial enterprises in Poland.
