Aim of the course

The aim of the course is to present selected theories related to space in social sciences.

Scope

  1. Space as one of the main categories of human perception
  2. Social dimensions of space according to selected theories
  3. City-countryside division and its validation in our times
  4. Social characteristics of suburban areas
  5. World Urban Forum and the concept of Sustainable Development

Teaching methods

Discussion on selected articles, lecture. Individual student work (e.g. reading and analysis) according to the teacher's instructions.

Assignment conditions

Classes:  written essay.

Final grades: mark is based on written essay and activities/participation in discussions during class. The mark from the essay may be elevated for a half grade or a whole grade depending on the intensity of the activities.
