Aim of the course

Familiarizing students with the characteristics of regions, selected institutions and elements of the culture of the United States.

Prerequisites

Command of English that allows one to participate in the classes.

Scope

Characteristics of selected regions of the United States.

The United States Declaration of Independence.

The United States federal government.

The legal system in the United States.

Education in the United States.

The economy and industries in the United States.

Religion in the United States.

National identity in the United States.

Racial and ethnic diversity in the United States.

United States Armed Forces.

Elements of (popular) culture in the United States.

Teaching methods

Lecture, conversational lecture, discussion, panel and scored discussion, students' presentations of selected topics.
