Cel przedmiotu

The aim of English Language Classes (ELC), comprising 3 courses:  Integrated Skills, Reading and Writing, Listening and Speaking, is to advance and consolidate the student's language skills, i.e. reading, writing, listening and speaking, at a language level of C1/C2 .

Zakres tematyczny

INTEGRATED SKILLS

Topics may cover: culture, science, social and political reality and economy in the context of English speaking countries. Consolidating the knowledge of grammar at an advanced level. Building a wide range of vocabulary in various fields at C1/ C2 level, incorporating nuances of meaning, idioms and colloquialisms. Text analysis: structure and argumentation. Text mediation (summary, paraphrase), error correction.

READING AND WRITING

Various types of fiction and non-fiction texts. Appreciation and evaluation of literary and non-literary texts. Developing critical thinking skills, logical and convincing thought formulation in the form of consistent and coherent oral discourse. Expanding vocabulary, grammar, stylistic and rhetorical techniques. Writing well-structured texts of complex subjects, practicing the skill of writing in a particular convention (employing a variety of genres), varying the tone, style and register according to the addressee, text type and theme.

LISTENING AND SPEAKING

General and specialized subjects, complex authentic texts. Preparing, conducting and participating in a debate.

Metody kształcenia

Individual, pair and group work. Text study, error correction, brainstorming, mind map, creating presentations, demonstration and observation (student presentations), audio and video demonstrations, discussion of the topics presented in the text,  written answer, oral answer, panel discussion,  debate.

Warunki zaliczenia

Credit with grade.

To pass English Language Classes (ELC) you need to receive a positive grade for each component course. Obtaining a negative grade from any component course will result in a negative grade for the entire ELC block. The final grade for ELC block is the average of the component course grades.

Conditions for individual component courses credits:

Achieving threshold levels for planned oral and written assignments (60%); regular attendance and active participation in classes for each component course.
