Cel przedmiotu

Gaining knowledge about the basic research methods and tools in linguistics and learning how to apply some of them in practice.

Zakres tematyczny

The research process and its stages (choosing a research problem and perspective, selecting, organising and interpreting data, drawing conclusions). Types of data. Quantitative and qualitative research methods. Types of research methods in linguistics (experimental, contrastive, corpus studies, discourse analysis, conversation analysis, ethnomethodological studies, survey, case study, etc.).

Warunki zaliczenia

Final grade is based on the students' performance in several individual and group assignments (including a test and a project) (80%) and participation in in-class discussions (20%).
