This course aims to familiarise participants with the basics of scientific text translation, linguistic and literary terminology in a foreign language, and to develop the ability to translate foreign-language texts, primarily linguistic and literary texts, cultural texts, as well as to deepen knowledge of the language and ways of using it on the basis of foreign-language texts.
Basic knowledge in linguistics.
Culture and its place in human communication.
Linguistic and communicative competence versus cultural competence.
Types of national cultures in a communicative perspective.
Culture shock.
Speech acts in different languages and cultures.
Cultural stereotypes and prejudices.
Non-verbal communication in different cultures.
Politeness and linguistic etiquette in intercultural communication.
Taboos in different cultures.
Working with the text; practical activity method (individual and group); heureza (overcoming barriers and different constraints through debate and collective reflection).
