Cel przedmiotu

Gaining knowledge and developing skills in audiovisual translation between English and Polish. Practical skills include: adapting translated text depending on particular audiovisual methods (mainly from the perspective of redundancy and synchronisation): making paraphrases and linguistic synthesis of the text; translation based on the text-type, audience and register; solving cultural problems in audiovisual translation; becoming familiar with audiovisual translation methods and technical aspects (use of translation software).

Wymagania wstępne

Knowledge of spoken and written English and Polish.

Zakres tematyczny

Methods of audiovisual translation (dubbing, captioning, voiceover, audio-description).

Synchronisation procedures.

Redundancy (in relation to the viewers’ knowledge, visual and verbal aspects).

Problems of language and culture transfer.

Translation of humour.

Intertextuality.

Register and slang.

Translation in advertising.
