Cel przedmiotu

Course Purpose and Objectives: to gain an understanding of the importance and limitations of philosophy in various areas of psychology; to gain a basic understanding of philosophical tools and their relation and potential utility to the science of mental health; to gain a basic understanding of philosophical underpinnings of different psychological theories.

Upon successful completion of this course students should be able to: illustrate basic philosophical terms like ontology, epistemology, ethics and how they work in psychological practice; relate intersections of psychology and philosophy; dissect the reciprocity as well as discrepancy of psychology and philosophy

Zakres tematyczny

What is the philosophy of psychology? Brain/mind problem and its consequences to the question of matter and consciousness; Is neuroscience necessary to psychology? Is psychotherapy more Cartesian or more Spinozian? What is the ontological status of mental illness? The normal/pathological distinction and its ethical consequences; Philosophical underpinnings of international classifications of mental disorders.
