The course is intended to comprehensively present the history of Poland in the 20th and 21st centuries.

Scope
Regaining of independence by Poland and rebuilding of the state.
Social, political and economic relations in the Second Polish Republic until 1926.
Sanation’s governance from the May Coup to the “Brześć elections”.
The last years of Piłsudski’s governance (1931-1935).
Domestic problems and international situation of Poland in 1935-1939.
The Polish question in the politics of the world powers during the Second World War.
The communist left on its way to power.
Political changes in 1944-1947 – strengthening of the new system of power.
Social and economic situation in Poland in 1944-1949.
The Soviet way to socialism – the Polish version of Stalinism.
The social and political crisis of 1956. 1957-1970 – the period of relative stabilization.
The 1970s – “Solidarność”, martial law, the twilight of the Polish People's Republic.
The breakthrough of 1989, development of the new system of governance and the European course of the Third Polish Republic.
Teaching methods
The student obtains detailed knowledge of the history of Poland in the 20th and 21st centuries.
