[1] The award of a pass grade (3, 4, or 5) is dependent on satisfying the attendance criteria, the presentation criteria AND demonstrating behaviour and attitudes appropriate to university students in higher education. The teacher reserves the right to lower (or refuse the award of) the grade in the event of inappropriate behaviour. This includes, but may not be limited to, use of offensive language, non-participation in activities, unpunctuality.
[2] In order to accommodate the mixed abilities of students participating, high attendance is one of the primary criteria. While it is expected that students are expected to attend 100% of the course, some have (or claim to have) other commitments and the attendance criteria allows these students to make an informed choice about their priorities.
[3] Any student NOT attending 22hours or more will be required to take this English language test at B2 (on the CEF) or FCE (Cambridge ESOL) and will comprise Listening, Reading and Language in Use. Ms Simpson will show examples of test items at this level within the first two lessons of the semester. Students, can, therefore, judge for themselves whether they wish to be assessed on submission of a presentation and their test result. The focus of the course will NOT be ‘to pass the test’, however. The classes will involve a range of practical, communicative and task-based activities.
[4] Students who do not give a presentation in class time cannot be awarded a 4 or 5.
