Aim of the course

The aim of the course is to familiarize the student with the basic principles and ethical dilemmas in social sciences, as well as to familiarize students with the legal standards regarding the protection of personal data and the protection of intellectual property.

Prerequisites

Scope

1. Ethics as a science of morality

2. Professional ethics, functions of professional ethics

3. Professional roles of sociologists and ethical dilemmas associated with them (sociologist, researcher, expert, teacher, commentator of social life, etc.)

4. Ethics of the sociologist profession - code guidelines (PTS, ISA and ESOMAR code)

5. Review of research methods and techniques in social sciences, taking into account the ethical problems related to their application

6. Ethical dilemmas in open and hidden research

7. Ethical dilemmas in on-line research

8. Difficult research undertakings, research topics and areas (research with children, research with people with disabilities)

9. Protection of personal data (anonymity, privacy, confidentiality)

10. Protection of intellectual property - the phenomenon of plagiarism

Teaching methods

Working with text, a method of discussing cases, simulation games involving the challenge of students with a choice in connection with some ethical aspect of social research, group work, discussion, e-learning, blended learning
