Aim of the course

[1] Introduction to the basics of composing small music forms.

[2] Education in composition and arranging workshop in order to acquire the ability to create for various chamber instrumental compositions.

[3] Improving creative imagination, improving the original composer style.

[4] Techniques and composing trends in 20th-century artistic music.

[5] Review of music literature documenting the development of 20th century composing techniques.

[6] Basic software tools used for composition, arrangement and music production using a computer.

Prerequisites

Knowledge and skills in the field of jazz harmony. Knowledge of the achievements of outstanding jazz music creators in the field of composition and arrangement.

Scope

 

- Creating small instrumental or vocal-instrumental forms: a song with the AA1 or ABA form for solo voice and jazz rhythm section (piano, double bass, percussion);

- Basics of arrangement: song form, choice of key, tempo, style. Issues related to notation, voting, dynamics, articulation and modulation;

- Saxophones: transpositions, registers, expression possibilities, harmonizing melodies in concentrated, semi-open and extensive systems;

- Creating small instrumental forms using two wind instruments and a jazz rhythm section;

- Creating small instrumental forms using three wind instruments and a jazz rhythm section; - Creating small instrumental forms using four wind instruments and a jazz rhythm section.
