The aim of the course is to equip students with knowledge about national sociological quantification studies, that are the basis for the diagnosis of phenomena and processes in contemporary Poland. Knowledge on selected sociological research in Poland (institutional conditions for their implementation, issues, methods of measurement, types of derived data) enables a student to properly select data later used in the analysis of selected social phenomena. While carrying out the tasks of the syllabus, student acquires the ability to collect data and verification of their utility in analysis of specific social phenomena. Student can make data analysis and interpretation of the results obtained on his/her own.

Preparation of a project |
Written work on a selected topic related to current social problems occurring in Poland, prepared on the basis of empirical data derived from the sources discussed in the classroom. Compliance with the topic, correct structure of work, language, reliability, independence of preparing work, proper selection of literature. The correct presentation, ability to answer questions about the presented material. The work shall consist of 3 parts, which verify: -the ability to indicate the specifics of the activities of selected national research institutions and the ability to compare them in terms of taken issues, gathering and data sharing policy; -ability to demonstrate how to search for, collect and adapt the data for own analysis and critical view on the usefulness of the data for the analysis of the research problem; -appropriateness of the adopted methods of presentation and data analysis to comply with the problem, completeness and accuracy of the conclusions and the ability to correctly and fully interpret the results with respect to the question of the problem. |
