The course is aim at presenting the phenomena of mysticism, mainly in its Eastern form

Zakres tematyczny

Introduction (etymology of mysticism, difference between mysticism, philosophy and science, mysticism and religion) 2) Greek mystery religion 3) Plato and Plotinus 4) Paganism versus Christianity, early Christian mystery (Clement of Alexandria, Origen, Desert Fathers) 5) Formation of mystical theology in Byzantine Empire (Pseudo-Dionysius the Areopagite, John Climacus, John of Damascus, Symeon the New Theologian,  Gregory Palamas) 6) Mystical theology in Rus’ 7) mystical elements in religious Russian philosophy at the turn of XIXth and XXth centuries

Warunki zaliczenia

Particular classes will be ranking according to activity, student is supposed to write an essay on chosen book. The condition of ranking the whole course will be a written test according to the total contents of the course.
