Aim of the course

The aim of course is: 1) to introduce students to the social and cultural context of teachers’ role; 2) acquaint students with the basic knowledge on the different aspects of functioning teachers in the profession and main concepts of teachers’ education; 3) to suggest ideas for practical work in school and training skills of using acquired knowledge to the analysis of education processes and teachers’ self-study.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge in Pedagogy and Sociology.

  1. Transformation of the teaching profession in Poland in the European context.
  2. Status of the teacher in Poland and in the Europe.
  3. Teachers training.
  4. The teacher leadership competencies.
  5. Teacher’s professionalism.
  6. Development of the teaching profession- schooling and improvement in the profession.
  7. The teacher as an innovator.
  8. Cooperation between teachers and parents.
  9. Dilemmas in teaching practice.
  10. The teacher in the period of change.

Assignment conditions

The requirement to pass is active participation In class discussions (25% of general grade), description a report/presentation/ poster selected from the area of pedeutology (50%), individual/ group preparation of an essay or preparation of a portfolio (25%).
