Aim of the course

To provide students with comprehensive knowledge on selected topics related to the process of education and its social determinants

Prerequisites

No special prerequisites.

Scope

Sociology of education as a sociological subdiscipline.

The concept of education in sociology.

Education and social stratification processes - sociological perspective.

School selection process and its social conditions.

Education from the perspective of "hidden" program.

New dimensions of social differentiation among the youths.

Teaching methods

Lecture with discussion. Multimedia learning process – using Power point presentations. Case studies presentation during the lecture.

Assignment conditions

5-page take-home exam, lecturer-decided topic.

Active participation is defined as reading course literature, participating in minimum 80% of course sessions, and contributing to the discussion session.
