The aim of the course is to look at the external world through analysis of individual experiences, interactions and communication acts and documents in a wide meaning of the word (texts, images, photos, videos, etc.). The intention is to decipher the ways individuals construct the world around, their activities and interpretations of social reality by using the meaningful, rich in details, categories specific to particular individuals. Striving to grasp the specifics of experience and interaction in a natural context (social and individual).

1. Specifics of qualitative research - key terms and concepts.
2. Types of qualitative research - methods of discourse and document analysis. conducting interviews, observation, focus tests, analysis of visual materials, etc.
3. Comparison of methods of quantitative and qualitative research - an indication of their advantages and limitations.
4. Triangulation in social research.
5. Designing qualitative research - the subject of research, research questions, hypotheses / theses, sampling, research tools, planning of research implementation, data and their processing, creation of a categorization key, etc.
6. Analysis of selected examples of qualitative research projects.
7. Types of data in qualitative research: verbal, ethnographic and visual, etc.
8. Analysis of qualitative data taking into account the type of data.
9. Verification of the obtained data.
10. Presenting the results of qualitative research.
11. Examples of computer programs for the analysis of qualitative data.
12. Qualitative research in the process of revitalization.
13. Ethics and ethical behavior in qualitative research.
Based on the subject literature and the introduction to qualitative sociology issues, creation and implementation of student’s own research project (individual choice of method) with all procedures appropriate to the selected research method. Discussion on projects.
